A Calender’s primary benefits are to control uniformity, smoothness, bulk and surface finish of the paper. The main parameters impacting the calender’s finishing process are: nip intensity and temperature. The tools that provide control of these parameters are:
- Roll nip pressure, by means of hydraulic pressure control in the loading pistons.
- Roll surface temperature, by means of temperature control in the Thermo Roll.
The ÆGO™CAL is comprised of one deflection controlled smarflex roll c and one oil-heated Thermo Roll. A separate oil hydraulic line controlled by an external hydraulic unit does the deflection control of the smarflex roll c.
